Calcutta Suspect Arrested After Deadly Attack
A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a brutal murder and attempted murder that took place in Oakley Trust, Calcutta, in the early hours of 22 November 2025.
Police were called to an RDP house just after 04:30, where they discovered the body of a man lying in a pool of blood with severe upper-body injuries. He was declared dead at the scene. A second victim, a woman believed to be the suspectâs friend, was found in the same house with serious injuries. Although unable to speak, she was still alive and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
A crowbar, believed to have been used during the attack, was recovered by investigators.
Following swift investigative work, police arrested the suspect, identified as Alfred Dumisani Shabalala. He appeared before the Mkhuhlu Magistrateâs Court on 25 November on charges of murder and attempted murder. His case was postponed to 27 November, and he will remain in custody.
