KaNyamazane Youth Protest Against Job Nepotism

Members of the community, mostly the youth, from KaNyamazane Township protested at the City of Mbombela (CoM) premises on February 21, demanding an end to nepotism and corruption.

They also called for the replacement of the project liaison committees (PLCs) overseeing the Kiaora/KaNyamazane N4 and KaNyamazane/Matsulu Interchange Projects.

The community accused PLC members of political affiliations that grant them exclusive access to job-related information, leading to favoritism. “These projects were meant to be non-political community development initiatives, but the PLCs undermine transparency and fair employment opportunities,” stated the group’s memorandum submitted to CoM.

“Many PLC members hold political positions, giving them an unfair advantage in selecting candidates for project jobs. Reports of after-hours hiring further limit community access.”

Public Order Police and CoM security monitored the peaceful protest.

CoM spokesperson Joseph Ngala dismissed the allegations, stating that the N4 highway projects fall under Sanral’s jurisdiction, not the City of Mbombela.
