Three Initiates, Including 13-Year-Old, Die in Initiation School Fire Near Numbi Gate

Three young initiates, aged 13, 14 and 17, have died after suffering severe burn injuries in a devastating fire at an initiation school in the Enkambeni area near Numbi Gate, Mpumalanga.
Police confirmed that a fire broke out at the initiation school, leaving the three boys critically injured. They were rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment but later succumbed to their injuries.
The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities are also expected to strengthen health and safety measures and compliance at initiation schools to help prevent similar tragedies.
The incident has renewed concerns about safety standards at initiation schools and the need for effective emergency preparedness and supervision.
